Legendary Barolo producer Roberto Conterno purchased the struggling Nervi property in 2018. With the vineyard and cellar revitalization complete, these wines are now living up to their full potential. Gattinara will always be built on red fruit, iron notes from the volcanic soil, and graceful tannins, but it was two of Nervi’s “grand cru” vinyards that added to the appeal for Conterno. Molsino vineyard is known for producing wines of both power and finesse, darker fruit aromatics, licorice, and incense. A comparative tasting of Conterno’s Valferrana and Molsino from Gattinara, and his Barolo Monfortino would be epic, to say the least.
