Region: Régnié, Beaujolais, Burgundy, France Grape(s): Gamay Winemaker: Jacky Gaulthier Drinks Best: Now -3 Years
The Gaulthiers care for the vines on their small estate in the picturesque village of Lantignie using “lutte raisonnee,” or minimal intervention, letting the impressive terroir of the region shine through. Régnié, the newest cru in Beaujolais with status awarded in 1988, offers similarly styled wines as their more famous neighbor in Morgon less than a kilometer away, yet the wines in Régnié often offer better value. Pinot Noir lovers will fall for this elegant wine that bursts with tart cherry and red raspberry fruits accented with herbaceous notes and a smack of vibrant minerality, fresh acidity and fine-grained tannins on the finish.
