The vineyards of Chouilly are in the northernmost part of the Cotes de Blanc, where Chardonnay reigns supreme. The Legras family has been here since the days of Louis XIV and are now in their 11th generation of family operation, hence the phrase on the bottle ‘Ma terre est mon royaume’ – my land is my kingdom. The ‘Coste Beert’ is a powerful, broad-shouldered Grand Cru Chardonnay that is also vibrant, mineral-driven and precise. This seeming contradiction in themes and in tasting descriptions is only possible in a choice few Grand Cru vineyards of the Cotes de Blanc.
