In 1946, Sardinia was recovering from World War II. A significant part of their ‘Piani di Rinascita,’ or ‘Rebirth Plans,’ was the redistribution of agricultural lands. The government reclaimed the area of Nurra in northwest Sardinia and then allocated it to farmworkers. In 1959, a group of a hundred farmworkers formed a cooperative, leading to the establishment of Santa Maria la Palma. Today, they continue to honor Sardinia’s land by showcasing their native grapes and terroir. The sandy minerality comes through in a big way, meets up with aromas of sage plant, white flowers, and flavors of tangy lemon, orange, and fresh green apple.
