Winemaker - Mario Piccini - purchased land in Sicily in 2016 and began farming his vineyards on Mt. Etna organically.  The Piccini family has made wine in Tuscany for 140 years but there was something exciting about the prospect of making wine near the active volcano Mt. Etna. “Cauru” is the Sicilian word for “hot,” which succinctly describes the heat-retaining quality of the volcanic soil nurturing the vines. This is a medium-bodied red packed with vivid red fruit--strawberry, morello cherry, raspberries--with hints of citrus peel and hibiscus. There is also a flinty minerality present that adds an edge to the luscious fruit. Enjoy it now, it is made to be drunk young!
