The Adelaida winery, located in the Santa Lucia highlands, was originally purchased by Don and Elizabeth Van Steenwyk in 1971 as a family getaway. Winemaker Jon Munch produced the label’s first wine ten years later. The estate is ideally situated--in terms of both terrain and climate-- to produce the classic Southern Rhone varietals. The vines cling to steep hillsides of granite and chapparal and thrive under a hot mediterranean climate. This is a big (15.3% ABV), brambly red wine that features rich blueberry and dark chocolate aromas mingling with forest-floor earthiness and subtle notes of anise and licorice on the palate.
