Region: Chianti Rufina, Tuscany, Italy Vineyard: Bucerchiale Grape(s): Sangiovese Winemaker: Franco Bernabei Drinks Best: Now - 10 Years
Selvapiana’s history reaches as far back as Medieval times when the watch tower on the property was built to protect the city of Florence. Geographically separated from the central parts of Tuscany, the region of Chianti Rufina has always been the passion and pride of the Selvapiana estate – being among the first to create their Riserva solely from the Sangiovese grape and crafting classic, single-vineyard wines. From the Bucerchiale vineyard we’re rewarded with ripe red fruit and an elegant, plush palate. Dried rose and a touch of bramble and smoke on the nose are fleshed out on the palate with red raspberry. It’s drinking beautifully now and has a depth that easily allows cellaring.
Pairings: Pappardelle with wild mushrooms, leeks, and pancetta cream sauce
