Region: Languedoc-Roussillon, France Grape(s): Carignan Winemaker: Olivier Coste Drinks Best: Now - 1 Year
The name ‘Old Star’ is a reference to how the Carignan grape was formerly a star of the Languedoc region before falling out of favor. It’s a real pity because Olivier Coste of Domaine Montrose makes a killer wine from it. Lively and fresh with dark berry fruit tones of raspberry and black cherry with just an edge of brambly earthiness and exotic spice. Its easy-going drinkability is tempered with a hint of tannin.
Pairings: Lamb meatballs with a spicy tomato sauce
