The Biscardo family has been making wine in Verona for four generations and have become synonymous with high quality and traditional wines, selecting the best grapes from the most suitable areas in Valpolicella. Nicola, current scion of the Biscardo family, visited us recently and talked about the rationale for this wine. He initially was skeptical of the idea of ‘entry-level’ Amarone, but sourcing fruit from younger vines allowed him to make an approachable, fruit-forward, easy-to-drink Amarone. He launched the brand in homage to his grandfather Pompilo as it’s wine, ‘just like grandpa always wanted!’ It shows dried fig and sweet red fruit, tobacco leaf, mint, an earthy graphite minerality and gentle tannins.
