Region: Swartland, Coastal Region, Western Cape, South Africa Grape(s): Chenin Blanc Winemaker: Johan Meyer Drinks Best: Now - 4 Years
Mother Rock is a collaboration between the founder of Indigo wine imports Ben Henshaw and South African winemaker Johan Meyer. This project focuses on finding exceptional grapes from a variety of soil types and making wine from them as simply as possible to let the terroir shine. This Chenin Blanc is farmed organically, made with just a touch of sulfites for stability, and fermented with only naturally occurring yeast. Flavors of stewed golden applecompliment white flowers on the nose, honeycomb comes in on the palate with a slightly waxy texture, pineapple, and a granitic mineral finish completely evocative of the South African terroir.
Pairings: Roasted chicken with orange supremes and caramelized fennel
