Montenidoli 'Tradizionale' Vernaccia di San Gimignano 2020
Region: Vernaccia di San Gimignano, Tuscany, Italy Grape(s): Vernaccia Winemaker: Elisabetta Fagiuoli Drinks Best: Now - 3 Years
Produced in the hill town of San Gimignano in Tuscany, Vernaccia was the very first grape to achieve DOC status in 1966—even before Barolo! The landscape of San Gimignano echoes the regal nature of its wine, with 14 medieval towers dotting the skyline of rolling hills. Winemaker Elisabetta Fagiuoli grows these vines on a 500-acre farm alongside olive trees. The 2020 vintage of ‘Tradizionale’ may be one of her best yet. About 5 to 7 days of skin contact maceration provides the wine with good structure, rich body, and plenty of complexity. Enticing aromas of dried apricots, green cardamom, and chamomile introduce spiced flavors of bergamot, dried orange peel, and tons of herbal notes.
Pairings: Green lentils & farro with feta cheese & Kalamata olives
