Provence native Matthieu Barret was born into seven generations of winemaking. After studying in Beaune and producing his first vintage in 2000 at his grandfather’s farm in Cornas, he was dissatisfied with organic farming and decided to take things further. Since 2001, Matthieu has farmed biodynamically, and in 2012, he stopped using machinery in his vineyards. His ‘Black Flag’ Syrah is sourced from Vincent Fargier’s certified organic estate in Ardèche, which Matthieu harvests himself and transports to his winery in Cornas. Aged in concrete tanks for 12 months, this silky, juicy Rhône Syrah features ripe blackberry, plum, olive tapenade, and black pepper, with balanced acidity and chewy tannins.
