The Montaña family has been cultivating grapes in Rioja since 1886. In 1910, Don Román Montaña founded the family winery, Marqués de Tomares. Today, fourth generation winemaker Oscar Montaña runs the estate producing wines from the family vineyards with some vines clocking in at over 100 years old. The Reserva spends 18 months in French and American oak followed by about 30 months in bottle before release. This is an old-school interpretation of Reserva Rioja with plenty of complexity and age ability. The oak influence is skillfully integrated with aromas of leather, spice, graphite, and garrigue. Creamy red fruit flavors on the palate are met with vibrant acidity and gripping tannins.

Pairings:
Dry aged ribeye with smoked bone marrow and horseradish crema
