Though the Canary Islands are a Spanish territory, they sit just 60 miles off the coast of Morocco. The ferocious winds and deep volcanic soils require grape growers to dig small craters surrounded by stone walls to shelter the vines. These hoyos that dot the black, hardened lava fields give the landscape an almost alien appearance. The result is low yielding vines that produce fruit with extreme concentration and flavor. This red is made utilizing carbonic maceration, a technique popular in Beaujolais to produce fruity forward flavors resulting in an extremely fresh wine meant to drink young. Juicy dark red fruit and a touch of smoke are present on both the nose and the palate. Drink with a chill if you’d like!
