Sub-Region: Santa Ynez Valley, Santa Barbara County, California Grape(s): Sauvignon Blanc Winemaker: Justin Willett Drinks Best: Now - 3 Years
‘Lieu-dit’ is a French term for a small, named parcel of land cared for by dedicated growers. Sommelier Eric Railsback and winemaker Justin Willett chose this name for their winery as an homage to smaller production winemaking and making wine in a classic ‘Old World’ style using solely Loire Valley varietals. They believe the ocean influence in both the climate and soil of Santa Barbara is perfect for growing both red and white grapes from the famed French region, and certainly this Sauvignon Blanc strikes a perfect balance between Sancerre and California: well textured with tropical guava fruit and lime peel flavors that are laced with mineral and herbaceous undertones.
