From the regionally touted birthplace of winemaking in Macedonia, the Jordanov family has been producing wine from their farm for centuries. With the development of the Stobi Winery in recent years, this sustainable, solar-powered, organic farm and cellar is taking ancient practices and ancient varietals and giving them a modern twist. The indigenous Vranec (VRAH-netz) is a relative to Zinfandel that translates to ‘black stallion,’ sometimes called ‘black wine’ for its deep color.  As the name suggests, this wine is quite full-bodied, although still approachable and food-friendly. Aromas of plum, fresh topsoil, and violets introduce a silky palate with soft tannins and a juicy finish.

Pairings:
Smoked Kalbi (Korean BBQ style) short ribs
