Intellego Wines, founded in 2009 by Jurgen Gouws, embodies his quest to explore the full potential of the Swartland, a region he now calls home. The name ‘Intellego,’ meaning ‘understand’ in Latin, reflects this philosophy. In 1901, Sybille, a ship stranded near Jurgen’s grandmother’s farm at Lambert’s Bay during the Boer War, inspired this Pinotage pét-nat, a tribute to her after her passing. Sourced from the organically farmed Langkloof vineyard, the grapes are gently pressed, giving the wine a soft pink hue, and fermentation finishes in the bottle, creating tiny, frothy bubbles. Aromas of grapefruit zest and raspberries lead to a crisp palate of macerated strawberry and ripe pink grapefruit, with a soft, smoky minerality on the finish.
