Region: Saumur, Loire Valley, France Grape(s): Ugni Blanc Drinks Best: Now - 1 Year
Although Ugni Blanc is one of the most widely planted grapes in all of France, in the right hands and in the right terroir, it can shine with acidity and delicious, vibrant flavors. Henry Varnay crafts a Blanc de Blancs using only Ugni Blanc from the Loire Valley and utilizing the Charmat method – most common for making Prosecco – leading to a frothy, bubbly palate with tons of fresh fruit and brightmineral undertones. Foxy fruit and melon compliment the dry nature of this wine, and the lower alcohol – only 10.5% - means you can enjoy this on its own, or with any meal of the day, breakfast included!
Pairings: Waffles topped with fresh chèvre, thin sliced pears, and a drizzle of honey
