The story behind Elena Walch wines is a story of women empowerment. The estate was founded in 1869, four generations later Elena Walch married into the family and revolutionized the family’s wine and helped put Alto Adige on the international map. She drastically improved the quality by lowering yields and changing farming practices. In 1988 she put her name on the label since it was her ideas behind the wine, thus Elena Walch wines were born. Today, the estate is run by Elena’s daughters. Schiava is perfect for pinot noir or gamay drinkers, looking for something similar but different. Light-bodied and fruity, with notes of cherry, almond, and a hint of white pepper, it’s a delicious light red that will remind you of a Beaujolais.
