Eight generations of Foucaults tended the land and wine at Clos Rougeard, and although they have sold the estate, most of the family is still highly involved in production. Their consistent application of philosophy and technique over generations made their wines highly allocated across the world and even in France itself. Les Poyeux is a vineyard roughly 6 acres in size and home to the estate’s sandiest soils, It is aged in oak barrels that have only been once, used prior by their top tier wine, Le Bourg. Intense and full of depth, it has a meaty nose with spicy green herbs and black pepper. Dark plum and black cherry fruit lay on the palate followed by licorice, espresso and spicy tannins. This bottle is just now entering it's drinking window, but will continue to mature beautifully for decades.
