Region: Columbia Valley, Washington, United States Grape(s): Syrah Winemaker: Greg Harrington Drinks Best: Now - 5 Years
Winemaking seems to have a siren song that lures Master Sommeliers from the dining room to the vineyard and winery.Greg Harrington felt this pull so strongly that he and his wife Pam moved from NYC to Walla Walla, Washington to open Gramercy Cellars. They found this area was producing wines more akin to Bordeaux and the Rhône Valley than California or Oregon. Wines with strong earthiness rather than big fruit. This ‘Old World’ style is certainly apparent in this Columbia Valley Syrah. Full-bodiedwith notes of raspberry and blueberry with lavender, smoked game, olive and freshly turned black loam, it’s an impressive wine with an old-school mentality.
Pairings: Grilled leg of lamb tacos with tomatillo salsa
