Few if any winemaking regions in the world are as storied, as copied, and as famed as Bordeaux. The vineyards surrounding the port city of Bordeaux have been growing grapes and making wine since somewhere around the 4th century, making Chateau Castera, with a long and illustrious history going back the 14th century, relative newcomers. Their 2011 blend showcases much of what has made Bordeaux famous. The secondary characteristics that can only come with bottle aging are beginning to show elegantly, as the blackberry and blueberry fruit are seamlessly integrated with truffles and mushrooms while the generous tannins have rounded into ideal drinking form.
