In a region dominated by impressive large-scale Châteaux, there are precious few remaining small farmer and winemakers who work their soil and make their wine with a sense of purpose and place. The Auney family is one such pair, and Sylvie and Christien Auney painstakingly assembled their small farm by recovering dozens of smaller farms that had been abandoned or gone fallow. This Merlot dominated blend is classically Bordeaux, featuring a nose that leads with freshly turned soil and mushrooms followed by plum and blackberry. Pleasing acidity and moderate tannins round out the palate and remind us of the delight that soulful Bordeaux can provide.
