Region: Wagram, Lower Austria, Austria Vineyard: Gmirk Grape(s): Grüner Veltliner Winemaker: Anton Bauer Drinks Best: Now - 2 Years
As a fourth generation winemaker, Anton Bauer has taken his family’s winery and transformed it into a modern facility. Yet in the vineyard Tony’ still hand-picks the grapes and utilizes a very traditional, hands-off approach just as his family always has. For this cuvée, Tony sources the grapes entirely from the renowned Gmirk vineyard in Wagram and ferments and ages the wine entirely in stainless steel, enabling the aromas and fruit in the wine to shine through. It’s an instant classic with aromas of layered apple, nut and mineral spice. The palate is crisp and clean with ample amounts of citrus fruit. Versatile enough to go from aperitif to pairing with a spectrum of cuisines.
Pairings: Tarragon seasoned smoked trout salad on toast topped with micro greens
