Region: Banyuls, Languedoc-Roussillon, France Grape(s): Grenache Drinks Best: Now - 8 Years
Banyuls, the southernmost wine appellation in France, is known for their age-worthy ‘vin doux naturel’ - a white, rosé, or red fortified dessert wine. For this sweet red, M. Chapoutier hand picks the grapes when they are very ripe. A long fermentation is halted with the addition of pure alcohol, allowing the wine to retain its’ natural sugars. Rich aromas of dried fruit, orange peel, and black pepper introduce a deep garnet elixir whose luscious palate is layered with flavors of dried plum, baking spices, and dark chocolate.
