When Stephano Massone first returned from university after his father’s sudden passing, he inherited an estate making bulk red wine sold in big jugs called demijohns to be sold in Genoa. Stephano saw the potential of the white grape Cortese, which thrives in the appellation of Gavi, and decided to rip out the old and replant Cortese exclusively on his holdings. Now, over 120 acres of his vineyards are planted only to this classic Piemontese grape. The ‘Masera’ is a crisp, clean drinking white with ripe notes of apple and peach backed by citrus notes of lime zest and a noticeable mineral character.
