In the late 1800’s, Anton Iby started making wine. When his son Anton II married Maria Petschowitsch, the two took over her family’s estate. As of 2017, we are on Anton no. 5 who led the journey to becoming certified organic. He and his wife Eva Maria aim to create minimal intervention wines that showcase the varietal, the terroir, and the climate of Burgenland - this Blaufränkisch does just that. Aged in oak barrels, this wine is juicy but structured with flavors of sour cherry, freshly picked blackberries, and spice. Reminiscent of Pinot Noir but with a little more grip, this is certainly a delicious new find.
