Region: Rias Baixas, Galicia, Spain Grape(s): Albariño Winemaker: Gerardo Mendez Drinks Best: Now - 2 Years
Gerardo Mendez founded the Do Ferreiro winery in 1973. Located in the low, undulating hills of the Salnès Valley just north of the Portugese border, over half of Mendez’s twelve acres of vineyards are over fifty years old. There are no pesticides or non-organic fertilizers used here, and Gerardo keeps up with the latest technology to produce truly crisp, clean wine, while maintaining traditional, regional flavors. The Atlantic Ocean winds give a salinity to this Albariño, and there are pronounced notes of peach, apricot, fig trees, and white flowers. Minerality shines through on the palate with a little bit of body that’s heightened by a fresh finish.
Pairings: Grilled oysters with tarragon butter and garlic
