Patrick Tranchand started his family business with his brother & father in 1994 in the heart of Saint-Amour, where he continues to operate the farm largely by hand and with minimal input. Saint-Amour carries the dual distinctions of being one of the more rare crus of Beaujolais as well as the northernmost. This northerly location probably contributes to the commonly held opinion that it bears a striking resemblance to its more expensive cousin to the North (Pinot Noir), though we’ll leave that determination up to you. It features loads of cranberry and raspberry on the approach, a deeply aromatic core, and a beguiling finish.
