While it’s impossible to trace the beginning of the ‘natural wine’ movement to any one producer, there can be little debate that Jean Paul Thevenet (known to his friends as Polpo), along with three of his friends and colleagues in Beaujolais, were absolutely pioneers and paragons of the movement. Now making wine alongside his son Charly, the Thevenets are still making some of the mostly highly regarded wines in Beaujolais. Grain & Granit features red cherry and plum on the approach, followed by a violet and spiced mulberry midpalate, it closes with silky tannins and a vibrant, energetic finish.
