Region: Sierra Foothills, California, United States Grape(s): Barbera, Zinfandel Winemaker: Matthew Rorick & Danielle Shehab Drinks Best: Now
‘Another Rare Creature,’ indeed. Matthew Rorick continues to push the boundaries of California winemaking with his single varietal expressions of obscure grapes and his obscure take on the more common. Their ‘Queen of the Sierra’ wines combine Matthew and Danielle’s creativity, spunk, and affability right in the bottle. The rosé is a blend of the unlikely bedfellows, Barbera and Zinfandel. This gorgeous wine, while unfined and unfiltered, shows incredible polish. As fun to smell as it is to drink the nose shows rosehip and cranberries. The fruit is front and center on the palate with wild strawberry and brisk passionfruit bursting forth with hint of earthy rhubarb on the finish.
