Mendieta Osaba is a family-owned and operated winery located at the foot of the picturesque Sierra Cantabria mountain range where they have been producing terroir-driven wines from their historic vineyards for generations. This is not the full-bodied, oaky style that we have come accustomed to seeing from Rioja. The whole grape bunches undergo a process called carbonic maceration, whereas the berries begin to ferment until they break open to release their juice naturally. This results is a lighter, fruitier style of wine with softened tannins and bright acidity. Popping aromas of violets and ripe blackberry lead to a juicy, refreshing palate of black cherry, raspberry, and a hint of licorice spice.
