White wines in Italy have a tough time garnering respect, seeing as the noble red grapes tend to hog the spotlight. And yet, if you know where to look, you can find some pretty darn impressive examples of whites, in a multitude of different styles. In the South, the Falanghina grape delivers an excellent alternative to Chardonnay, providing weight and volume while typically being unencumbered by oak. The ‘Falange’ from Manimurci is a great example of this style, showcasing peach, apricot, and nectarine on the nose and palate, all sitting on a medium body, and a dry, surprisingly crisp finish.
