In the late 1960’s, Alfredo Currado – the winemaker at Vietti at the time – led the charge to reintroduce this nearly lost grape variety to Piedmont’s wine culture, earning himself the nickname ‘The Father of Arneis’ in the process. With the winemaking now in the adept hands of Alfredo’s son, Luca, Vietti’s Arneis is an outstanding expression of this grape, with flavors of pear, peach and apricot accompanied by hints of herbs and tealeaf. It’s medium bodied and fermented to keep a little bit of CO2 for a unique effervesence on the palate. It’s a beautiful, elegant wine, and is a standout among Italy’s underappreciated white wines.
