The storied, several-hundred-year-old Champagne house, Jacquesson, has become a paradigm-shifting 21st century iconoclast, changing the way things are done in Champagne. Helmed by brothers Laurent & Jean-Herve Chiquet, the young men took over from their father in the 1980’s when they brought the energy, idealism, and confidence of youth with them and set about to fundamentally change the way wine was made in Champagne. They retired a 150-year-old label and instituted a radical new concept – to name the wine in sequence each year based on the vintage, even for non-vintage wine and to turn the focus onto specific terroirs under their control. It really is impossible to overstate how bold and audacious these moves were, especially for such a storied and successful house.

Few wines in the world are as transparent as a bottle of Jacquesson Champagne. An incredible amount of detail is included on every back label – the grapes, where they’re from, the dosage, and the disgorgement date for consumers to truly understand everything that is in the bottle they are drinking. These are laser focused, crystalline examples of terroir in Champagne. They rarely get much dosage – in classic Jacquesson style, a lot of wines are Extra-Brut or even Brut Nature – and they are absolutely worth becoming your new favorite Champagne house for those special occasions worth celebrating.

Pairing: Jacquesson goes with everything from fried chicken to oysters on the half shell
