Having watched his grandfather and uncle work the family land and get sick from all of the chemicals they used, Raphael Saint-Cyr immediately transitioned the farm to organic when he took over in 2008. This fourth-generation vigneron has made other astute decisions as well, such as buying more northerly vineyards before it was clear how much warmer the region was getting. Sourced from three distinctive parcels in Chénas, ‘Robert’ undergoes carbonic maceration and aging in old oak barrels for 10 months. Delightful scents of black cherry, violets, rose petals, and dried herbs are followed by a palate redolent of blood orange, red plum, and black raspberry, leading to a velvety, juicy finish.
